Our
Academic Journey
The
Department of Statistics began its academic journey in 1991 and has since
developed into a dynamic hub of research and education. We offer a
comprehensive range of undergraduate program and postgraduate programs,
including Master of Science (MS), M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in statistics. Our
curriculum is meticulously designed to equip students with foundational
probabilistic and statistical concepts, emphasizing their pivotal role across
multiple disciplines such as science, technology, business, economics, and
social sciences.
By
providing instruction in both theoretical and applied statistics, we prepare
our students for modern challenges that demand advanced data handling skills.
Our commitment to education is further bolstered through workshops and various
graduate programs that offer advanced training in statistical techniques.

data mining, population studies, statistical inference, biostatistics,
econometrics, time series analysis, actuarial science/statistics, multivariate
analysis, operations research, and beyond. This rich expertise significantly
enhances the quality of our postgraduate teaching and research supervision, as
well as the variety of topics available for student-led postgraduate research
projects.

Our department is proud to have established Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with distinguished institutions such as Assam University in Cachar, India, Universiti Utara Malaysia in Kedah, Malaysia, and International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b). These collaborations have opened avenues for academic exchanges, and we are actively engaged with other foreign universities to explore similar opportunities.

Facilities
To
support our academic endeavors, we are equipped with various research and
technical resources. Recognizing that computers are essential tools for
statisticians, we have two well-equipped computer laboratories, each providing
online access and comprehensive technical support. Our extensive collection of
statistical software ensures that our students have all the necessary tools at
their disposal. Furthermore, our seminar library offers a substantial
collection of statistical textbooks and national as well as international
journals. The dedicated staff at the seminar library is always ready to assist
with any inquiries and provide guidance.
